No Guns

Easy there, cowboy! Free signs for businesses opting out of Open Carry. 

As a small business—and one that does graphic design in-house—we were troubled and confused by the rules regulating who could and couldn’t legally enter our office under the new Open Carry Law, which went into effect here in Texas on January 1. It quickly became evident that others were also struggling to figure it out compying with the rules while not defacing their businesses with plain or ugly signage that sends the wrong message.

So, we’ve designed two series of signs from which any Texas business can choose and download at no cost whatsoever—printing at their local copy shop or sign company. There are legally compliant, opaque posters at the most efficient size we could manage as well as files for transparent signs in windows.

PLEASE NOTE: Based on our understanding…

• The 30.07 signs are—to the best of our understanding—compliant with the law. They do not prohibit concealed carry, which would require a similar 30.06 sign.
• Businesses may post a smaller sign without the full text stating that openly carried guns (or, if you wish, guns in general) are prohibited. See “General Signs”. This sort of sign will not legally prohibit people from bringing handguns into your establishment—but it will convey your preferred policy to responsible gun owners. If someone ignores your sign and carries an openly displayed gun into your establishment, you can tell them that you do not allow guns in your establishment, at which point they will be legally obligated to leave.
